Tinnitus Diagnosis & Treatment
What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus involves hearing noises like ringing, buzzing, humming, or cricket sounds without any external source. These sounds may be persistent or sporadic, and they could be perceived in one or both ears, or even within the head. Often, tinnitus is associated with changes or even damage in the auditory system.
Causes of Tinnitus
Tinnitus is frequently associated with some degree of hearing damage or hearing loss and may also come with sound sensitivity or hyperacusis, which makes moderately loud noises seem very loud. The disturbance from the tinnitus is often exacerbated by other circumstances surrounding the onset of the tinnitus as well as lifestyle stressors or other medical conditions.

Tinnitus Treatment Options

Lenire®
Lenire® is the first and only FDA approved tinnitus treatment device. Lenire® is a groundbreaking bimodal neuromodulation device which has been proven to provide clinically significant relief from tinnitus. Western Colorado Hearing Clinic was specifically chosen by Lenire to offer this treatment in Western Colorado, one of only two in the state.

Hearing Aids
Hearing aids can be an effective tool in managing tinnitus when hearing loss is also present. Hearing aids are effective in reducing tinnitus disturbance by providing proper neural stimulation to the brain, which is the reason for the initial cause of tinnitus for most patients.

Sound Therapy
Sound therapy uses external sounds to either mask the tinnitus, reduce its perceived intensity, or help the brain habituate to the sound. Sound therapy can significantly reduce the impact of tinnitus on daily life, particularly in certain settings like while sleeping.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is research proven to provide benefit to patients who suffer from tinnitus disturbance. It identifies negative automatic thought and then evaluates its validity with the patient. It also aims to change negative automatic thought to more positive and realistic thought. In this way, tinnitus sufferers can function well despite the presence of tinnitus.
